Dealing with old age and aging

In an era where we venerate the immortal culture of youth (once called "young, healthy, fresh"), even the mere use of the words: old, old age, aging, and old age makes us uncomfortable. But the old men and women, those who in every culture have always been considered the wise and the wisdom of the community, teach us about survival, perseverance, coping, about containment, about faith, about optimism, about strength, about life and death. We live longer and longer, but not all of us will be able to grow old, much less grow old with dignity.
If we are lucky and reach the later stages of old age, we will discover that old people do not always enjoy a good emotional and spiritual quality of life. And because we are not taught anywhere to prepare for old age, we find ourselves embarrassed and helpless in the face of the challenges of old age.

Spiritual guidance in old age is a quality meeting that strives to connect with what is meaningful to you as older people with rich life experience. Spiritual guidance in old age serves as a safe space where you can talk about fears, hopes and longings regarding the end of life. In the meetings, we will deal with the search for a new and positive perspective, the need to cultivate hope despite the crisis, the discovery of your spiritual and emotional strengths and the realization of the idea of aging with dignity.

  • In spiritual guidance sessions in old age, we will answer together the "spiritual questionnaire" - a series of structured questions that shine a spotlight on and reveal your personal story and emotional and spiritual world, bringing to awareness the experience you have gained throughout your life, the achievements, lessons, insights, dreams and lessons. We will examine all of these with new eyes and enable a renewed, beneficial interpretation that imbues the story of life with meaning and a sense of self-worth.

  • A person experiencing memory loss and cognitive decline usually suffers greatly. Dementia is not a mystery, it is a natural part of many diseases such as stroke, cerebral palsy, Alzheimer's or Parkinson's. However, those who experience dementia, cognitive disintegration and the disappearance of the familiar personality in favor of a new, different personality, suffer pain, fear, shame, helplessness, anger and feelings of loss of self-esteem.
In working with those experiencing dementia, I emphasize brain stimulation, mainly through sensory therapy: listening to music, gentle touch, preparing and serving small tastings of favorite foods, using aromatherapy, looking at albums and looking together at meaningful pictures and objects.
If necessary, I also work with family members who are actually experiencing a crisis themselves with the experience of early grief even before the death of their loved one.

"The spiritual focus alone is what guarantees and constitutes unity and perfection in man."
Wholeness, in this context, means the integration of the physical, mental, and spiritual aspects.
It must be emphasized again that only this triple perfection makes man whole.

From 'The Unconscious God', Viktor Frankl
